Volunteer- Fundraising/Special Events Job

Deshon Johnson College Scholarship Foundation  


Do you like fundraising, have an interest in helping to make a different for safety of human lives and help Raising Awareness for Innocent People Who Were Killed by Reckless Bus Driver but have a limited amount of time to volunteer? If so, this position may be a good fit for you? Work with the founder of the foundation and community members organize fun and creative fundraising events for the Deshon Johnson College Scholarship Foundation in Montclair/Verona New Jersey.  The money raised goes towards under privilege high school students who want to attend college or students who are already in college.  Also, help fight stigma and educating the community about the high count of innocent lives killed by reckless bus driver and these drivers is not being held accountable for their actions.
                                                
The Deshon Johnson College Scholarship Foundation have two events a year on March 5 and July 18th.  DJCSF needs help planning and organize fundraising events such as trivia nights, award dinner, raffles, etc. Secure participate and solicit donation items for vent via phone, internet and by visiting business in the area.  Prepare materials for the fundraising event and help with setting up event.  This position will be an opportunity to learn how to plan special events, approach potential donor, and meet other people in the community who are concerned about safety issues.  The committee meets once a month on a weekday evening in Montclair. Before an event meetings are twice a month.

Volunteer as a mentor with DJCSF you gain knowledge and make a meaningful connection with business owner. Mentors join, search for entrepreneurs to assist online and once connected, serves as a coach and trusted guide. This volunteer opportunity is extremely flexible-you set the schedule and the expectations with the founder. Meanwhile, our supports staff is by your side ever steps of the way to help you succeed as a mentor.  You can put your skill to good use and help the foundation worthy cause today. You can gain experience, possible job leads, networking, become mentors to new industries, gain entrepreneurship skills/knowledge, learn how DJCSF nonprofit business operates, opportunity to connect, and challenges and creates unique ideas.

The next time you visit Etsy, check these shows owned by Black entrepreneurs:

#1 - Li Li's Creations: Opened in 2013 and is owned by Malacia Anderson. The store sells women's clothing and accessories in beautiful African prints.

#2 - Peace Images Jewelry: This unique store makes and sells necklaces, earring, bracelets and other jewelry featuring owner Cami's trademark peace sign. The store opened in 2008. Owner Cami describes herself as "a woman who took the advice of someone who loves her... and it led me down an amazing path."

#3 - Urban Heirlooms: This store makes handmade leather bags and accessories featuring authentic vintage and antique keys. Owner Dana opened the store in 2006. She states, "It's my joy to re-purpose old materials into something fresh, new and innovative."

#4 - Beija-Flor Naturals: This store produces organic skin care and natural hair products. The brand is inspired by the owner's Brazilian background and uses the best ingredients from the Amazon rain forest to the Savannahs of East Africa.

#5 - Marcus Kwame: Designs and sells unique art prints. All the artist's unique and colorful prints are signed and numbered. The store is owned by artist Marcus Kwame Anderson, who opened the store in 2007.

#6 - Throne: This store crafts crochet scarves, hats and headbands in bold, beautiful colors and designs, using materials like Alpaca, Cashmere, and Bernat Mega bulky yarn. The store opened in 2014 and is owned by Shayna Janelle.

#7 - Amani at Home: This store features African-inspired pillows in designs that come from owner Amani's love of Africa. Her designs are a reflection of her travels to Africa and the Caribbean, and her products are rich and luxurious. Amani started her store in 2010.
