Thinking About Deshon Johnson on His Eleven Years Demise Anniversaries
On July 18, 2023, we commemorate the somber anniversary of the death of Deshon Johnson, a talented music artist and college student known professionally as Sean Cos Mason. It has been exactly 11 years since the tragic murder of Deshon Johnson on July 18, 2012. At the age of 22, Deshon was struck by a Coach USA bus driver named Wilson Romain on Broad Street and Bay Avenue in Bloomfield, NJ. Little did Deshon know that he would become a statistic on that fateful day while on his way to work. Sadly, his mother had no idea that she would be left with an empty room and a home that her son had once shared.
Deshon's mother is at the location her son was murdered by Coach USA bus operator Wilson Romain while driving an NJ Transit bus 709.
According to a witness at the scene, Deshon was waiting at the bus stop with another gentleman when the bus driver, Wilson Romaine, operating an NJ Transit bus 709, deliberately accelerated the bus, seemingly with the intent to hit him. Deshon was knocked into the street by the bus wheel, run over twice, and then dragged 50 to 100 feet. Despite a passenger urging the bus driver to stop and help Deshon, he callously refused, ultimately leading to the untimely death of the well-known music artist.
Deshon’s case was mishandled by Essex County Prosecutor Mike Luggar and transit attorney Michael Tuzzio. They unjustly blamed Deshon Johnson for his death, while Wilson Romain received a paycheck and a pension retirement package for committing vehicular homicide. The judge overseeing the case sealed Deshon’s records, and the bus agency’s attorney redacted the bus operator’s hearing, vision, and health records. Since 2012, Deshon’s mother has reached out to numerous New Jersey politicians, urging them to pass a bill that holds bus drivers accountable for taking innocent lives like Deshon’s and to establish a permanent memorial at the site where her son took his last breath on that town and county road. Unfortunately, her pleas have been ignored by the politicians.
“More than eleven years after Deshon’s death, his mother is more convinced than ever that investigators, including members of the Essex County Prosecutor Detective department, were wrong. She believes they rushed to close his case as an accident to absolve the bus operator of any accountability, and Deshon’s mother wants to know why,” said Naomi Johnson, Deshon’s mother, in an interview with the news. A petition has been launched online, urging the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office to reexamine the case. Deshon’s mother hopes that a video will surface, revealing the Latino man who was standing by Deshon on the day of the incident, as he is the main witness. Naomi urges the prosecutor to conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation of their previous inquiry. I kindly request you to share this video and help raise awareness about this senseless death. Let us honor Deshon’s legacy by playing his music, released under his musical name Sean Cos Mason, on all major music streaming platforms and social media music stores, keeping his memory alive for years to come.
"Deshon's mother finds herself at the location where her son's lifeless body was dragged after the tragic incident on Bay Avenue Bridge in Bloomfield, New Jersey.
The incident occurred when a Coach USA bus operator, while driving an NJ Transit bus 709, was involved in the crashed.
While other mothers spend time with their sons and grandchildren, Naomi is left to grieve at her son's death scene, experiencing immense pain, wishing he was still with her. Unfortunately, Naomi will never have the chance to be a grandmother, as the bus driver, Wilson Romaine, robbed him of his life, preventing him from ever having children to carry on his legacy that he left behind.
Naomi is currently fighting to obtain a permit for a memorial at the site where her son lost his life, located on Broad Street for the County road and Bay Avenue. Regrettably, the county has been ignoring her request, and the Bloomfield township is asking her to bear the cost of the memorial in the park.
Below, please find the email correspondence between Deshon's mother and the Bloomfield Park Department." Why should pay for the town and county's incompetency? They should bless her with the memorial. The township is trying to make money off the dead.

Hello Eunice,I did not notice your voicemail. Unfortunately, I am on a set disability monthly income. The price quoted to me is financially impossible for me. You told me it is $450.00 for a memorial tree and $1,750.00 for a park bench. My son was the primary financial provider after I became disabled when a Bloomfield police officer was chasing a stolen and it hit me head-on. Due to the police chase back on Wednesday, July 18, 2007, on Bloomfield Avenue and Watchung Street., I also became unemployed. My son lost his life in Bloomfield, NJ on Broad Street and Bay Avenue on Wed, July 18, 2012. On the day of my son's death, the sidewalk was blocked with orange barrels and yellow tape with no police presence on construction to ensure pedestrian safety and no deaths occurs. Do you have a memorial program that can put a plaque on the bridge where my son's lifeless body was dragged under the bus? I thought a memorial was supposed to be where the victims were killed and took their last breath. I am perplexed about why the memorial for my son would be in the park. Considering that the bus driver did not run him over twice and dragged my son Deshon's lifeless body into the park.
He was not killed in the park and did not take his last breath. I know Councilwoman Mrs. Cruze told me I can put a plaque at his death spot and I have to pay for the plaque.
Thank you kindly for your message.
Regards,
Late Deshon Johnson's mother Naomi
