In America, people board public transportation 35 million times each week. This being said, it is undoubtedly imperative that public transportation companies do their utmost best to ensure passenger and pedestrian safety. Unfortunately, it isn't so.

Picture, if you will, a regular day in New Jersey. It is late morning on July 18, 2012, and the day is in full swing. People are going about their daily business, sipping coffee, moving around, not one of them imagining the horrible thing that is about to happen. At 10:30, Deshon Johnson waits for the 709 NJ Transit bus that he takes to the job he works to provide for his disabled mother. He sees the bus coming and gets ready to board, only the bus doesn't stop. Upon realizing that the bus isn't not stopping, Deshon flags the bus, a sure signal for the driver to stop, and yet he does not. In a final attempt at boarding the bus, Deshon runs up to the door while on the handicap curb at the intersection and bangs on it, trying to get the driver to open. Instead of opening up, the driver jumps the handicapped curb where Deshon stands; knocking him down and after that, running him over twice and dragging him over 50 feet until horrified onlookers implore him to stop.
